Hi Reader, December and into January is a holiday season for many of us. Christmas, Hanukkah, and Ramadan are often overlapping, awakening our awareness and knowledge of oneness. Whether you are celebrating, praying, fasting, or trying to ignore it all … I invite you to find the essence of the holiday, the gathering, and the way it meets your heart. Traditions are beautiful and fun. Yet, they also often limit our ability to live our individual, and our family’s here and now. If we look at an example shared around holidays and gathering… food. Food is part of the festivities and gathering: what we eat around the table, or at the end of the day, is often at the center of preparations. In my family, we created a new tradition of asking WHY. Why do we eat this and that? Our answers mostly relate to our ancestors eating this and that because this is what they had available. Is this a good enough reason for us? It used to be, but it’s not so anymore. We dance between serving what makes everyone happy, including some traditional dishes, and respecting ourselves with our vegan, gluten-free options. Gatherings can be empowering, fulfilling, and deep. Sadly, they are often empty of potential purpose. We forget to truly listen to one another and share with each other where we really are. We fall into patterns that no longer serve us and that we have managed to overcome. When this happens, it is always because we still have a piece of us, inviting that deep-needed healing. When we see it as the invitation it is, and agree to see everything we need to see, in order for us, and for our children, to heal, something opens… and a new experience can emerge out of the same old traditions and patterns our family holds on to. Showing our children we choose to listen teaches them attentiveness. Our children seeing us choose love, over the family conflicts, teaches them to open their hearts. When we come to a gathering with the purpose of connection, we ripple healing to everyone. I wish you all, whatever holiday you are celebrating or not, that each moment of gathering, of meeting others, those you deeply care for, and sometimes also those you don’t like as much, but are a reflection and invitation to grow – that these holiday season and any season in life will be filled with your essence, knowing, truth, and love guiding you. Join us on Dec 17, 8 am PST, 11 am EST, and 5 pm CET. We will discuss Angels in My Hair by Lorna Byrne - exploring what we can learn and apply from Lorna's childhood story to raising spiritually aware children.
